March 2020 is going to be remembered in history as a time when all the schools, colleges, universities, and other academic institutions were shutdowns worldwide. Health officials from the world health organization (WHO) took steps to prevent the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in all communities across the world. The pandemic situation is affecting the lives of students, families, and communities still nowadays. The global lockdown of schools, colleges, and universities is going to cause an unequal interruption in student’s learning processes, disruption or cancellation in assessments, or their replacement by inferior alternatives. Here is a glimpse of all the changes COVID-19 has triggered within the education system worldwide.

While no one was prepared for this pandemic that hit the world, and there was no vaccination for Covid-19. While the education system was one of the most disrupted sectors globally. According to the United Nations report, the shutdowns of schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions impacted 94% of the world’s student population in more than 200 countries.

However, we’ll discuss here quickly and efficiently the education sector started to adopt the new normal and also the other ways the pandemic has transformed the education sector into homeschooling across the world. It has also brought attention to teachers’ training in a new method of education delivery.

A wide range of distance learning toolkit

As the pandemic came and schools were shut down, one of the key priorities of schools was to ensure the learning continuity of students. During this situation, the schools shifted online using different tools like Zoom meetings, Google meets, and Microsoft meetings, etc. to ensure online learning without disruption. In some areas with limited connectivity of the internet, the government launched television and radio programs, together with the distribution of print materials to ensure continuous learning. On the other hand, many parents struggled to perform these tasks, especially with limited resources to face the challenge of online learning and teaching. Working parents tend to leave children unattended, which was caused by the bad quality of learning or even risky behavior.

Methods of assessment with an examination management system

Many schools were shut down due to Covid-19, and the exams were canceled. So many schools adapted alternative solutions such as online testing and exams. In online testing, the student’s progress is monitored with the help of an online examination management system. This methodology ensures speedy learning assessments that facilitate spotting learning gaps quicker than ancient learning methods. On the other hand, many students were not comfortable with online assessments because of the lack of limited resources, e.g., technical problems, a sense of isolation, and a lack of social support.

Online appreciation platform for educators and teachers

As many students struggled to take a look at their studies from home across the world, there has been an outpouring of parents’ gratitude for teachers, their coaching skills, and their valuable role in a student’s well-being. Traditionally, the teacher’s role in students’ lifestyles is very crucial as we consider. The Covid-19 pandemic has realized to us the importance of the teaching role in students’ life, helping them form bonds with their peers, build confidence and help them to fulfill hopes and dreams. On the other hand, parents experienced a high level of stress after seeing children struggle with a distance learning program.

Tools and resources to promote inclusive learning

As many countries adopted distance learning programs in the pandemic Covid-19, students with disabilities faced and struggled with many barriers. This prompted different organizations to innovate and develop one-of-a-kind tools and technologies for students with disabilities and their parents. This included enhancing accessibility features such as sign language videos, audio narration, and simple text to ensure that students with disabilities can continue their education properly.

Increasing unevenness between students

The Covid-19 crises have increased the pre-existing education disparities by shortening the opportunities for many of the vulnerable children that live in poor or rural areas. The lack of smartphones and internet connectivity led to a loss in education for many students. These learning losses threaten this generation and impeded student performance, with disparate impacts on different groups of students in rural areas. So we realized the means and ways of providing online education to rural area students should be replaced. In our view, radio is an effective way of communication in providing education to rural students.

Innovative solutions and support for teacher’s needs

As the Covid-19 came, teachers were tasked with online learning or online classes without sufficient software, guidance, and training. Teachers across the world were unprepared to support this continuity of learning. Teachers were forced to adapt to new tools and technologies over the night. This was highlighted to give the teachers training in basic digital skills and alternative methods of education delivery.

Changing role of parents in education

For many years, parents played the role of mere spectators in the education of their children. However, the pandemic covid-19 forced the parents to take a more active role in the education of their children. Whether it means supervising their children during online classes or simply homeschooling the students. This pandemic made the teachers and parents allies as they can work together to meet the student pedagogical needs.

Conclusion

The Covid-19 has impacted the education system in each way, in addition to positive and negative ones. But these changes have also highlighted the propitious future of education. Today, we realized to accelerate changes in the mode of delivering quality education using the school management system. However, it is also imperative that students affected by the lack of resources or the environment get the success of learning. As schools open to continue their traditional classes, there will be a set of new changes made in the way schools approach classrooms while maintaining the norms of safety and social distancing. These decisions made by the authorities and schools regarding education for the duration of the pandemic will have extraordinary social and economic impacts. These implications will have lasting effects on educators, kids, youth, and extraordinary societies as a whole.
